How to receive an academic grant in 2026?
What should you pay attention to? How can you avoid missing this opportunity? An academic grant is non-repayable financial support from the state that may fully or partially cover the cost of tuition under a fee-paying contract. In 2026, the programme has been expanded: grant amounts for bachelor’s students have increased, and academic grants have also been extended to applicants entering master’s programmes on the basis of a bachelor’s degree. 🎯 Who can receive an academic grant?
Bachelor’s programmes
Eligibility for an academic grant is determined based on the results of the NMT (National Multi-Subject Test).
Level I grant — from UAH 18,500 per academic year:
- at least 150 points in each of two NMT subjects;
- for specialities receiving special state support — at least 140 points in each of two NMT subjects.
Level II grant — from UAH 27,000 per academic year:
- at least 170 points in each of two NMT subjects.
The same conditions also apply to applicants entering master’s programmes in medical, pharmaceutical and veterinary fields on the basis of complete general secondary education or NQF level 5 qualifications.
⚠️ Important: a Level I grant is not available for certain specialities. If the required results are achieved, applicants to these specialities may qualify for a Level II grant.
Master’s programmes
In 2026, academic grants have been extended for the first time to applicants entering master’s programmes on the basis of a bachelor’s degree.
Depending on the speciality, eligibility is determined using the results of the Unified Entrance Examination (EVI), Unified Professional Entrance Examination (EFVV) and/or Unified State Qualification Examination (EDKI).
Level I grant — from UAH 27,000 per academic year:
- at least 140 points in the required entrance examinations;
- for specialities receiving special state support — from 130 points.
Level II grant — from UAH 40,000 per academic year:
- at least 160 points in two designated entrance examinations.
The results of professional entrance examinations and other assessments conducted directly by a higher education institution are not taken into account when determining eligibility for an academic grant.
💰 What determines the amount of the grant?
UAH 18,500, UAH 27,000 and UAH 40,000 are the basic academic grant amounts. Additional coefficients may be applied depending on the speciality.
- Coefficient 1.5 — for certain education, natural sciences, engineering, agricultural and other state-priority specialities.
- Coefficient 1.3 — for certain creative, IT, medical and other specialities.
- Coefficient 1.0 — for other specialities.
For example, a Level II bachelor’s grant of UAH 27,000 with a coefficient of 1.5 amounts to UAH 40,500.
For a master’s applicant, a Level II grant of UAH 40,000 with a coefficient of 1.5 may amount to UAH 60,000 per academic year.
Important: the grant amount cannot exceed the tuition fee established by the higher education institution.
🌟 Additional support for certain regions
In 2026, an additional coefficient of 1.5 is provided for eligible applicants from the following regions:
- Zaporizhzhia region;
- Mykolaiv region;
- Sumy region;
- Kharkiv region.
The coefficient is applied subject to the requirements of the state programme regarding the place where complete general secondary education was obtained and the higher education institution chosen for enrolment.

📱 How is an academic grant issued?
You do not need to submit a separate application for an academic grant. Eligibility is determined automatically on the basis of information contained in the Unified State Electronic Database on Education (EDEBO).
Grant certificates for 2026 applicants will begin to be generated from 15 September 2026.
A notification about the academic grant is sent to the Diia mobile application and will include:
- the grant level;
- the grant amount for the academic year;
- the higher education institution;
- the educational programme.
After receiving the notification, the grant must be confirmed in Diia using Diia.Signature.
Grant funds are not transferred directly to the applicant or student’s personal account. The state transfers the funds towards tuition fees at the higher education institution.

Before enrolling under a fee-paying contract, we recommend checking:
- your NMT, EVI, EFVV or EDKI results;
- whether you qualify for a Level I or Level II grant;
- the speciality and the coefficient applied to it;
- whether the selected higher education institution participates in the grant programme;
- whether an additional regional coefficient may apply;
- the tuition fee;
- other circumstances that may affect eligibility for a grant.
Important: an academic grant is not provided to an applicant who declined a recommendation for a state-funded place.
